Embedded Linux BSP and service integration

Focused platform engineering for a connected industrial system spanning embedded Linux, application services, testing and delivery automation.

The challenge

A connected product required coordinated work across its embedded operating system, application services and delivery pipeline. New functionality had to be introduced without compromising deployed-platform stability, and releases needed to become more repeatable as the software stack evolved.

Engineering approach

Crossware supported the BSP and application layers as one delivery system. Yocto and embedded Linux changes were connected with Java-based services, automated image generation and structured validation so that platform work could move through the same controlled workflow as application changes.

Improving the engineering workflow

Changes were backed by clearer test coverage, repeatable builds and documented release activities. CI/CD work automated the creation of product images from the relevant metadata layers, reducing manual steps and making it easier to reproduce the software state used during validation.

Delivered capabilities

  • Yocto and embedded Linux platform support
  • Native and managed application-service integration
  • Automated image generation in GitLab CI/CD
  • Test coverage improvements and structured validation
  • Defect analysis across BSP and application boundaries
  • Release support and reproducible delivery workflows

MaintainableTests and traceable builds support continued product development.

Outcome

The product team gained a stronger embedded software baseline and a more reliable path from source change to testable system image. The engagement focused on delivered platform and service work; broader cloud and fleet-service concepts remain separate future opportunities.
