One interface for propulsion, vessel data and onboard controls

The challenge

A new electric vessel needed a central interface that could present critical operating data, control low-voltage equipment and connect multiple onboard systems without adding complexity for the operator. The launch product also required a responsive touchscreen experience that remained dependable in a wet, moving marine environment.

Engineering approach

Crossware developed the Android-based HMI around the vessel's real operating workflows rather than treating the display as an isolated app. Propulsion and high-voltage information, vessel sensors, auxiliary controls and camera inputs were brought into a coherent software architecture. CAN and J1939 services connected the HMI to pumps, lighting and other onboard equipment.

From prototype to vessel integration

The work covered more than visual implementation. Display and touch behaviour had to be tuned for the target industrial computer, including reliable interaction under wet-screen conditions and protection against unintended input. The interface was continuously refined with the wider engineering team as hardware and operating requirements evolved.

Delivered capabilities

  • Touch-first controls for essential vessel functions
  • Integration of propulsion, battery and sensor information
  • Interfaces for pumps, lighting, cameras and onboard equipment
  • Industrial Android platform and touchscreen integration
  • Architecture prepared for navigation, connected services and OTA updates
  • Iterative validation toward operation on the launch vessel
